Hammock

Hilde recalls:

"When we were in the Dinglingen transit camp near Offenburg in Southern Germany in 1949, people came around to the camp selling things. I bought a spirit stove and this hammock for use on the ship to Australia. They said it would be handy to put [my eight-month old daughter] Mirjana in on the ship. Then we were told we would be going by plane and so our luggage went by boat, but I took the hammock with me because I thought it would come in handy on the train to Naples, and also I'd only just bought it. Mirjana used it on the train and it was slung from one luggage rack to the other."
